Mmesoma loves masquerades. this year something is different about the road where they dance. 

Every August, Mmesoma goes to Amakohia-Ubi, where she sits under her guava tree to watch the masquerades dance. This August there is a gully in the middle of the road. Daddy says it is erosion, and the rains have washed the soil away. The masquerades come back. One of them is her size. He trips and falls in. Mmesoma decides the hole has to go.
